Semi-Finals

Blue and Green faced off in the first semifinal. The season series that was tight, each with a win and tie.

Blue was the aggressor in the first moments of the game, controlled possession, and forcing Green’s stand-in keeper, Dan Every, to make a crafty touch save around the post. Two players that had significant injuries this year for blue scored in the first half. Kevin Moulton streaked from his back position and

scored low far post to open the scoring, and Tim White added another to make the score 2-0 at half.

The second half started just as the first half, with Blue on possession against and Green team without a sub. Scott Anderson finished a delicate header into the top corner to make it 3-0 Blue. However, Green came roaring back with some great counter-play, and due to some crafty play up top from Joe and John Caruolo, and Tim McGrath, applied some pressure to the Blue defense, getting a ball to hit the post. Green got a goal from a bouncing ball in the 18, and in the final few minutes the intensity grew. Time ran out, and the game ended 3-1 Blue.

Following an impressive performance from the Blue team, the top seeded White team hosted the 4 seed Orange in a late night affair that turned out to be an instant CASL classic. The first half started with Orange applying the early pressure, but it was White who absorbed the early pressure and capitalized first about midway through the first half. A ball played into the box and beautifully flicked on to Austin Wilkes who slotted it near post for the game’s first goal. Orange continued to apply pressure and had it’s best opportunity late in the first half off a Ryan Murray shot labeled for the top corner. But Mason Lesage made an incredible diving save to rob Murray late in the first half and preserve White’s 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The 2nd half began with Orange pushing forward and looking for an equalizer, but it was White who would score again on a throw-in from the left side of the field into the box where Wilkes was able to knock home his 2nd of the night and give White a 2-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Orange did not give up though and were able to pull one back minutes later on a scramble in the box and eventual flicked header by Jordan Miller to cut the lead in half. And then moments later Andrew Cooper finished a volley into the right corner to even the score with less than 5 minutes remaining. The game ended 2-2 after regulation, with extra time and potential PKs to follow.

Momentum seemed to be on Orange’s side as they had several chances early in the first half of extra time, and one that Sam Robinson of the White team had to clear off the goal line. White had it’s opportunity moments later from a header off a corner that went just wide of the goal. Late in the first half of extra time, Alex Eggs-Krings found the ball on his foot at the top of the box and made no mistake with a calm finish into the bottom left corner of goal for the game winner to send Orange through to the Championship game.
